Common Themes
Enough creatures have now been evolved to begin attempting to group them according to their body plans
and movement strategies. A number of common themes seem to arise in 3DVCE evolutions, and this page
reflects an attempt to organize some of the creatures into groups. These groups will not cover all the
creatures produced, and the groupings are subjective to a degree, but nevertheless here they are.
|
TWO-ARMED JUMPERS
These are creatures that get around using two symmetric wing-like or arm-like appendages that push
or jerk the body forward in repeated jumps.
|
JUMPING RIBBONS AND SPRINGS
These are creatures that have simple block-chain bodies with few to no extra branchings, and move
about by contracting or curling and then extending their bodies.
|
ROLLING RIBBONS AND SPRINGS
These are creatures that have simple block-chain bodies with few to no extra branchings, and move
about by rolling their bodies instead of jumping.
|
SINGLE-JOINT-POWERED CREATURES
These are creatures for which the primary power for movement comes from the motion of a single
joint between two blocks near the back of the body. The rest of the body acts as support to
maintain direction and balance or to slightly augment the driving power provided by the servo
at the main driving joint.
