NEW! >>> The Nine Trees Cluster (click here)

The great evolutionary geneticist Theodosius Dobzhansky once said "nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution". The widely-read and influential philosopher Daniel Dennett calls Darwin's theory the greatest idea ever to occur to a human. And while Darwin rightly deserves this praise for having laid out the foundations of all modern biology, and for providing the insight that has threaded together all aspects of our study of life on Earth, there is more to his great opus than has heretofore been appreciated. It is with great pleasure that I, a humble evolutionary computer scientist, present to you the following remarkable findings.

It's thanks to the tremendous publicity surrounding several bestselling books on what are called "Torah Codes" or "Bible Codes" that I have created this article. The books describe hidden codes in the Bible known as skip codes. To read a word hidden in a skip code, remove all spaces and punctuation from the text, then begin at the starting letter of the hidden word, skip ahead n letters to get the next one, then skip ahead by the same distance again and again to get all the letters in the word. For example:

Original text:

"..and the short-faced tumbler, and see the wonderful difference in their.."

Remove spaces and punctuation (and convert to upper case):

..ANDTHESHORTFACEDTUMBLERANDSEETHEWONDERFULDIFFERENCEINTHEIR..

Skip codes are hidden as equidistant letter sequences:

..ANDTHESHORTFACEDTUMBLERANDSEETHEWONDERFULDIFFERENCEINTHEIR..

By displaying the entire text as one large 2D grid of letters, one can sometimes find several hidden skip code words running through the text, vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, in close proximity to one another. While finding a hidden word is interesting, what's more interesting, and more unlikely, is finding a cluster of related words in close proximity to each other. What's even more unlikely than that is having that cluster of related words accurately predict the future!

By hunting for skip codes in the Bible, some have found that many predictions of future events were secretly encoded in the text. Being a computer programmer, I wrote my own skip code hunting program and loaded up the text from Charles Darwin's 6th and final edition of The Origin of Species (1872) in which he lays out his theory of evolution by natural selection. Unlike the Bible of course, the Origin wasn't the word of God, so I didn't really expect to find anything beyond lucky coincidence. Once I got the program up and running, however, the results were truly mind-blowing.

One of the very first hidden codes I discovered was centered around the word "DARWIN", shown in the example above. There are two words, encoded horizontally and in reverse, just above "DARWIN" - "GREAT" and "SEER" (see image below). Still thinking this was just a lucky coincidence, I searched in the vicinity of these words to see what else I might find. To my astonishment, I found "BOOK", "HIDES", "FATE", "SKIP", and "CODES". The rectangle which encloses all of these words is only 19 by 72 characters, and comprises barely more than a tenth of one percent of the entire grid (the whole text is 1,009,229 characters in length). Clearly, there are too many related words here, and they are too close together for random chance to be a satisfactory explanation. I was on to something.

Great, Seer, Darwin, Book, Hides, Fate, Skip, Codes [19x72]

After this tantalizing find, I began to search in earnest for more skip code word clusters. Cluster after cluster kept popping up, each containing accurate forecasts of the future - related words located together in close proximity. One such cluster is shown below - a prediction of the 1933 Reichstag fire, which was the result of arson, and which was a key event in the build-up to the second world war.

Reichstag, Fire, Burn, Arson, Three, Three, WWII, Death [42x34]

Seven hidden words, each related to this historic event, and all of them crammed into a tiny rectangle that's barely a fraction of the entire text. This was too good to be true. As I kept searching, more and more fantastic clusters emerged. The assassination of Yitzhak Rabin by Yigal Amir in Tel Aviv, one of the famous predictions found in the Bible codes, was also here in the Origin codes... twice!

Amir, Assassin, Rabin, Dead, Mid, East [24x23]

Yigal, Amir, Assassin, Rabin, Tel, Aviv, Middle, East [32x97]

Many of the events predicted in the clusters were scientific milestones or discoveries. I suppose this isn't that surprising given the nature of Darwin and his work.

The table below lists all my findings, each an event that took place long after the publication of Darwin's book. Click the predictions to see the actual word clusters.

These results are nothing less than phenomenal. Although the close-minded skeptics will no doubt balk at the notion, as skeptics are prone to doing, I think the implications here are too obvious to bother stating. I have faith that this will finally put an end to the continued religious opposition to the theory of evolution by a great many fundamentalist believers.

Prediction Event Details
The Reichstag Fire The 1933 Reichstag fire was the result of arson, and played a role in the build-up to the second world war.
The Assassination of Yitzhak Rabin Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated by Yigal Amir in Tel Aviv. Many feel this event put an abrupt end to the middle east peace process.
The Exxon Valdez Spill In 1989 the Exxon Valdez oil tanker hit a reef off the coast of PWS (Prince William Sound), Alaska. The ship was not double-hulled; instead it had a thin hull which was penetrated, spilling over 11 million gallons of oil.
Tesla's Iron Rotor One of Nikola Tesla's greatest inventions involved the use of a spinning iron rotor within a device for the generation of electrical power.
The Telephone Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray had a feud over who created the first telephone. Gray and Bell both submitted their patent applications within hours of each other. Bell won the race.
The Phonograph Thomas Edison created the first phonograph (called a "word phonograph"). His first recording was the verse "Mary had a little lamb".
The Light Bulb Thomas Edison didn't invent the first light bulb, but he did invent a better one than had existed before.
Albert Einstein Einstein's theory of relativity united space and time into a whole, called space-time. His famous equation E=mc2 united mass and energy by describing their interchangeability.
The Human Genome Project The project to map the entire human genome was completed in April of 2003.
Tenth Planet Mike Brown, Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz discovered the tenth planet from the sun.
Fermat's Last Theorem Andrew Wiles finally proved Fermat's Last Theorem.
The Modern Synthesis The term modern synthesis refers to the combined fields of genetics and evolution. Inheritance is mediated by genes in DNA, which are written as sequences of codons, each three letters long.
The Microwave Oven Percy Spencer invented the microwave oven.
The Sun's Power Source Nuclear fusion is the physical process that powers the sun. This process converts H (hydrogen) to He (helium). This was not known at the time of publication of Darwin's book.
Fermi's Golden Rule Enrico Fermi devised what physicists call the "Golden Rule" describing the process known as beta decay. A particular type of beta decay (electron capture) produces light in the process.
The Berlin Wall The Berlin Wall finally fell on November 9th, 1989.
The Cold War With the development of nuclear weapons, the bitter rivalry between the USA and the USSR, known as the Cold War, placed the entire world under constant threat.
JFK Assassination Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated US president John F. Kennedy in Dallas Texas on November 22nd, 1963. He was shot in the head and neck.
Venus' Hot Surface Dr. Carl Sagan was the first to work out that the surface of the planet Venus was hot.
First Moon Landing Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first men to walk on the moon in 1969. It was a small step for man and a giant leap for mankind. Their ship was called the Eagle. The entire project was the result of an idea first proposed by JFK a decade earlier.
First Earth Orbit Yuri Gagarin, traveling in a ship named "Vostok" (which is Russian for "east"), was the first man to orbit the Earth.
The Hubble Space Telescope The HST (Hubble Space Telescope) was launched with a faulty mirror. This caused it to return blurred images, and necessitated a manned mission to fix it.
The Origin Codes Oddly enough, these very codes are themselves foretold in a cluster. This discovery must be quite important for it to have been included alongside Edison, Tesla, and Einstein. blush blush. Darwin as a great seer, who hides the fate of mankind in skip codes, is mentioned in a couple clusters.
